SIB Councils Overview

ICST is a global society that reaches out to professionals on every continent who are engaged in science, technology, or business and their applications, to the emerging disciplines of the 21st century. ICST reaches out to a wide scope of Information, Communications and Technology (ICT) related fields and a broad spectrum of professionals.

To cover ICT’s wide scope of relevance, ICST is organized into Science for Innovation and Business/Technology councils ranging from arts, to agriculture, transport and architectures of systems.

To cover the spectrum of actors involved in innovation, SIBs offer position in activities ranging from science, to technology, government and business.

Each ICST SIB is a meeting place, both online and in person, for people in research institutions, companies, VCs and other financial institutions and government bodies, to advance science and technology, by sharing ideas and jointly opening doors to innovation. The overall scope of the SIB councils is ICT and its application in areas that present the major challenges and opportunities for change and growth in the 21st Century. These currently include the following focus areas: Future Networks & Communications, Future Information Systems, e-Security & Safety, Pervasive Media, e-Nano Technology, e-Business & Knowledge, e-Health, e-Energy, e-Society, Emerging IT Paradigms, e-Agriculture & Environment and Future Cities & Transport.

Through the SIBs, ICST encourages innovation in ICT using the latest web technology, such as an online conference repository, online meeting and collaboration environments, online publications and journals, comprehensive search engines, and other innovative technologies, as well as a series of web portals, one for each SIB. The aim of all these technologies is to bring science, business and government together to share information collaboratively and to encourage innovation.

More so, it is envisioned that the web portals will be a grassroots undertaking by all the members of the ICST society, and we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to participate in this worthwhile activity. Via the portals, we believe that the ICST SIBs will be an important way, and perhaps over time, the principal way, that innovation will be fostered in Europe.

As a result, your participation will provide you with visibility and influence over this significant and exciting activity, while providing you with an important means to help direct this effort from the very beginning.
