ICST at the EU-China Scientific Cooperation Conference
January 01, 2008As the largest scientific society in Europe, ICST was invited to the EU-China Scientific Cooperation Conference hold on November 19-20, 2007 in Beijing, China. As a distinguished guest of the event, the ICST Director of Business and Technology Affairs, delivered a presentation on the ``The Future Internet and the Role of ICST in Building a Global Scientific Society'' and participated in a panel discussion regarding the current framework of scientific cooperation between the EU and China. Speakers of the conference included experts from the EC DG INFSO, the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the Chinese Academy of Science and the Beijing Delegation of the European Commission.
ICST also participated in the accompanying exhibition organized with the specific purpose of bringing together all the major organizations in the area of scientific and technological cooperation between the EU and China. Exhibitors included the China-EU Science and Technology Unit, the European Commission, the Fraunhofer Institute, ATOS Origin, the Beijing Software Advisory Enterprise Center among several others. The program of the conference consisted of multiple tracks culminating in a one-on-one networking workshop where Chinese academic and scientific authorities had the opportunity to meet their European counterparts and explore specific cooperation projects.
During the two days of the conference, ICST representatives conducted meetings with leaders of the most defining Chinese academic and scientific institutions, such Tsinghua University, the Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, the Beijing Institute of Science and Technology Information Management, and the Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of China. The ICST Director of Business and Technology Affairs also met officers from Higher Education Press, China's largest academic and scientific publisher, to discuss a potential cooperation agreement between the two organizations.
