Experts gathered in Australia to debate hot topics of digital forensic techniques

January 25, 2008

The First International Conference on Forensic Applications and Techniques in Telecommunications, Information and Multimedia (E-Forensics 2008) took place on January 21-23, 2008 in Adelaide, Australia. The three day conference program included a series of technical sessions, a workshop on knowledge discovery and data mining and a tutorial on the applications for pattern recognition in biometric systems. The conference attracted a crowd of 70 experts coming from all areas of forensic activities, such as forensic research centers, law enforcement agencies, private companies and academic institutions.

The conference provided a unique platform for researchers and academics to discuss state of the art research contributions in the development of tools, protocols and techniques which assist in the investigation of potentially illegal activity associated with electronic communication and electronic devices. Presentations during the event included a wide array of topics in the field of electronic forensic sciences, such as biometric techniques, data recovery, multimedia analysis and evidence tampering in digital / electronic devices among many others. The conference proved popular among law enforcement personnel as well; representatives from several international and local law enforcement agencies were present.

The next edition of the conference (E-Forensics 2009) will be organized in Adelaide, Australia again around the month of January, 2009. The technical program will be extended by two additional workshops on forensic sensing technologies and the international legal implications of electronic forensic techniques. The organizers are also opening an Exhibition Track that would provide an opportunity to private companies to showcase their products and services in the related fields. In addition, this year's popular social program (gala dinner, barbecue party, sightseeing trip to the Kangaroo Island and the Barossa Valley) will also be further expanded with additional elements.
