Virtual Worlds expert from Harvard Law School joins FAVE 2008 steering committee
October 20, 2008Prof. Viktor Mayer-Schtznberger from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University (HKS) has joined the Steering Committee of the First ICST International Conference on Facets of Virtual Environments (FAVE 2009) to be organized on July 27-29, 2009 in Berlin, Germany. Prof. Mayer-Schtznberger is an Associate Professor of Public Policy at HKS focusing on issues of information and communication technologies policy globally and in the European Union. The FAVE 2009 Steering Committee is assisted by an organizing committee that consists of an international team including experts from the Technical University of Berlin, Utrecht University or the University of Arts in London. The organizing committee is chaired by Dr. Richard A.BARTLE from the University of Essex and Sven GROTTKE from the University of Stuttgart
FAVE 2009 aims to investigate the theme of virtual worlds from the technological, social and economic perspectives and to examine a broad spectrum of their applications in areas, such as social networking, virtual businesses or online culture. The technical program of the conference is planned to be divided into multiple tracks accommodating several related topics, such as virtual space and place, virtual societies, ethical considerations in virtual environments or human-computer interaction. By covering all these areas and topics, FAVE 2009 seeks to establish virtual environments as a research field in its own right as opposed to the current status-quo when the study of virtual environments subordinated to a collection of sub-topics of established academic disciplines.
