Sci-SPACE - The Society's Social Networking System
To bring together the global scientific community and to facilitate communication and interaction among its individual members, ICST has launched Sci-SPACE, a social networking experiment specifically geared towards the needs and interests of experts working in areas related to and impacted by information and communication technologies.
Sci-SPACE is an online and interactive platform based on Web 2.0 propelled functionalities and mechanisms. With this tool, ICST members are able to build a global social network consisting of individual interest groups based on a variety of different factors, such as common professional affiliations, research fields, ideologies, technological areas, project orientations, and shared tasks in ICST activities, etc.
Upon registration, Sci-SPACE users become ICST subscribers, allowing them access to a wide range of ICST tools and services. In Sci-SPACE, users can create a comprehensive profile that consists of detailed information on educational and professional experience, research interests, project involvement, conference organizing activities, and publication history. Sci-SPACE profiles function as individual Web sites reserved for Society members and serves as a platforms for posting published scientific papers and articles. By linking personal Web sites in such a manner, Sci-SPACE allows an expedient, free and focused dissemination of information tailored to the needs of specific user groups and networks.
User contributions to all ICST activities are recorded by Sci-SPACE. Individual profiles show positions held in organizing committees for ICST events, number of papers submitted through ICST publication tools, number of reviews in ICST journals and magazines, as well as participation and awards granted at ICST conferences, etc. Sci-SPACE offers a broad spectrum of additional functionalities. Users can benefit from participation through the following activities:
- Conferences: Sci-SPACE provides a collaborative platform for conference organizers to discuss specific conference-related questions and to develop related documents, such as calls for papers, conference brochures, and technical programs, etc.
- Proposals: Sci-SPACE offers a collaborative environment for research consortium members to develop funding proposals and to obtain information about procedures, etc.
- Articles: Sci-SPACE supports authors co-producing articles and papers by providing the standard options of collaborative document development as well as the uploading of specialized datasets (medical, accounting, financial, etc.).
- Patents: Sci-SPACE assists experts working on patents and other projects characterized by high levels of confidentiality and a proprietary nature by offering a collaborative environment with sophisticated encrypting and security measures implemented.
- Standardization: Sci-SPACE presents users with the necessary tools to work on projects focused on the implementation of new technical standards for products and processes including protocols and testing.
